People write and call to tell me they don't understand parallels and thus usually dismiss them. I wouldn't want you to miss out on the most powerful aspects. So here is a tiny parallel/contra parallel lesson: A parallel is the most potent aspect measured by the declination limits set by the Sun from 23° 35' north or south of the celestial equator - different from the traditional aspects measured around the zodiac belt. Parallels join two points or planets at the same degree of either north or south; when opposing each other, one at north and the other at the south point, both at equal distance from the celestial equator, they are called contra-parallel. When a planet reaches beyond the 23° limit they are considered out-of-bounds, calling greater attention to the planet. Parallels hold their influence for a long time and are considered beneficial. Of course, relative to the nature of the two planets involved. Some planets have a strong dark side. Contra-parallels are also beneficial, but temporary and less potent. In the past few decades these two aspects have become more popular in astrological study as observation proves them to be stunningly powerful. I first learned about these aspects in 1985 from astrologer Frances McEvoy. |
